Faith is a crucial aspect of the Christian life. It is the belief in things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen, as described in Hebrews 11:1. However, having faith is not just about believing, it also involves action and the right attitude. In Joshua 1:6-9, God commands Joshua and the children of Israel to be strong and courageous as they possess the Promised Land. This passage provides valuable insights on the attitude required to have strong faith and pursue God's promises boldly. In this article, we will explore the significance of being strong and courageous in faith, as well as practical steps we can take to strengthen our faith and pursue God's promises with boldness.
The strength of our attitude in faith is a key factor in our ability to live out the Christian life. When God commands us to be strong and of good courage, He is not simply asking us to hope for the best or believe without action. Rather, He is commanding us to have a steadfast, unshakeable determination that allows us to overcome any obstacles that come our way. We must be so confident in Him that we expect to see God's promises fulfilled in our lives, no matter what challenges we face. This is not a passive attitude, but an active and intentional one that requires us to be constantly strengthening and building up our faith.
To be strong and of good courage is not always an easy task, but it is a necessary one. Our faith must be able to withstand the trials and hardships of life and remain firm in our belief that God will see us through. This requires us to actively pursue a strong faith, continually seeking to grow and deepen our trust in God's promises. We must be willing to confront any doubts or fears that arise and replace them with boldness and confidence in God's faithfulness. This is not a one-time decision, but a daily choice to renew our minds and strengthen our faith.
The rewards of having a strong attitude in faith are immeasurable. When we live with a mindset of strength and courage, we are able to fully embrace God's promises and walk in the abundance that He has for us. We are able to take risks and step out in faith, knowing that God will be with us every step of the way. We are able to face adversity with grace and hope, knowing that we serve a God who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. So let us choose to be strong and of good courage in our faith, trusting that God will give us the strength we need to overcome any obstacle and live a life of abundant blessings.
Notice that God repeats the command to bee strong three times (in verses 6, 7, and 9), emphasizing its importance. The children of Israel were to possess the promise that God had given them with strength. When difficult circumstances came up, their hands were to be strengthened already around the promises of God, so their grip would not fail. They were not to be like their ancestors who saw giants and fortified cities and did not hold the promises of God with great strength.
Likewise, God commands us to be of good courage, which means to be strong, determined, bold, or courageous. This means that we should not simply wait for God's promises to come to us, but actively pursue them with determination and boldness. We should approach God's promises with an unapologetic attitude, refusing to be deterred by obstacles or challenges that may come our way. We should be confident in our faith and trust that God will fulfill His promises to us.
To be of good courage means that we are not afraid to take risks in our pursuit of God's promises. It means that we are willing to step out of our comfort zones and into the unknown, knowing that God is with us every step of the way. We should be willing to face challenges, knowing that God is on our side and will help us overcome them. We should not be discouraged by setbacks or failures, but instead use them as opportunities to learn and grow in our faith.
When we are of good courage, we approach God's promises with an active attitude. We do not wait for things to happen to us, but rather, we take action to make them happen. We pray, we seek God's guidance, and we work diligently to bring God's promises to fruition. We do not sit back and wait for God to act on our behalf, but rather, we act as God's partners in bringing His promises to pass. By doing so, we demonstrate our faith in God and our commitment to His purposes for our lives.
Our attitude towards God's promises should be unyielding, and our faith should be unwavering. We must stand firm in the face of any adversity and remain steadfast in our belief that God will fulfill His promises. We cannot allow circumstances or obstacles to shake our faith or compromise any of God's promises. Instead, we must cling to God's promises with all our might and trust that He will do what He has promised.
As Christians, we are called to be bold and active in our pursuit of God's promises. We cannot sit idly by and wait for them to come to us. Instead, we must be proactive and reach out to take what God has given us. We must be unapologetic in our pursuit of God's promises and be willing to storm any stronghold of Satan in faith. We must ask ourselves, what promises are we not pursuing in our lives? What strongholds of Satan are we not storming in faith? These are the areas where we need to be more courageous and determined in our faith. Let us be bold for Christ and actively pursue His promises, without fear or hesitation.
