Scripture Reading: 2Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
This reminds me of years ago when I was leading the middle school and high school youth group (a small group of about a dozen students), and at our pancake breakfast that the youth were hosting, one of the moms of a student pulled me out in the hallway and asked me what I was going to do to get more of the “cool kids” in youth group. Then she named a particular student in our group and said “So we don’t just have all the ----s” (she named the student). I was just sick to my stomach. I shook my head and said I needed to get back to the breakfast and walked away. Apparently she thought her kid was a “cool kid.” And the worst part was she was a daughter of one of our pastors. I’ll never forget that.
